Te Poutama Àrahi Rangatahi is looking for a new leader for our Education team. The ideal candidate will be a demonstrated leader with experience implementing, evaluating and reporting on behaviour change educational programmes.  We are looking for a strong communicator with great presentation skills who can multi-task in a diverse work environment and achieve high standard programme deliverables.  You will need to roll up your sleeves, get stuck in and hit the ground running!

About the role

The primary objective of this role is to supervise the development and best practice delivery of education for youth, ensuring integration with the therapeutic and residential aspects of the programme and is responsible for ensuring the ongoing professional development of the teaching team. 

The role has a place in the Leadership team and influences decision making, represents the organisation professionally, and creates a strong sense of morale by encouraging participation, ownership and a shared vision. 

Duties

  • Manage the development and best practice delivery of education for youth
  • Responsibility for the leadership and management of the teaching team and the ongoing professional development of teaching staff
  • Represent the teaching staff on the Residence Leadership Team and external agencies

     

Skills and experience key to this role are:

  • Appropriate teaching and leadership/management  qualifications
  • Current full certification with NZ Teachers Council
  • Proven experience in leadership and management of staff and resources
  • A sound knowledge of NZ curriculum, learning and assessment theory and the current issues and initiatives in education, including Màori education
  • Experience working with young people who present ‘challenging behaviours’ and/or working in the field with young people with significant learning difficulties who have been educationally disadvantaged
  • Strong evidence of high quality organizational, professional and time management skills
  • A strong clear communicator who relates well to a wide range of people in both oral and written format
  • Holder of an unrestricted NZ driver’s licence.
