Job Details

We are in need of a paint shop labourer who has experience using various hand tools, and who has a general understanding of painting processes and experience in preparing different materials to be painted. 

Education/Qualifications:

  • High school certificate or equivalent
  • Completed or currently completing an apprenticeship in painting

Experience:

  • Manual dexterity - extensive knowledge in handling both hand and power tools
  • Previous working experience is essential; priority is given to those with experience in the following fields:
    • Timber (e.g. kitchen resurfacing)
    • Automobile
  • Understanding of the basic processes and systems involved within painting different materials 
  • Experience in 2k priming 
  • Computer literate - basic IT and computer software understanding (Microsoft Word, Excel, Email etc.)

Skills:

  • Developed skills and clarity in both oral and written communication
  • Ability to read technical schematics  
  • Ability to forecast, discuss and/or resolve problems that are occurring 
  • Work comfortably with minimal supervision
  • Patience to complete repetitive jobs 
  • Punctual & respectable 
  • Ability to working longer hours is preferred

Job Tasks

This job will require on-the-job training for a limited period with one of our Simtech specialists. However, once the training and induction process is completed, the job tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Reading technical schematics to become familiar with the construction process
    • For example: job sheets, specification sheets and artwork 
  • Carefully follow instructions on technical sheets or received by supervisor/staff member 
  • Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards 
  • Always use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Responsibly and cautiously use tools and machinery when needed; including but not limited to:
    • Power tools
    • Hand tools
    • Air operated orbital 
    • Angle grinder
    • Spray gun
  • Mixing an application of materials to the product specification
  • Responsible for preparing a surface and applying a range of finishes to it in relation to the job specification
  • Maintaining, handling and moving objects and equipment
    • Using whole body techniques in handling, installing, positioning, and moving equipment as well as checking for safety hazards
  • Explain and follow safety rules where needed
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with all staff
  • Follow company policy and procedures at all times 
  • Assist and care for others when needed
    • Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to staff
  • Responsible for personal occupational health and safety 

A probation period is required as standard for every Simtech employee.
