We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Gas Network Maintenance Technician to join our Field Operations team in Toowoomba on a Permanent Full Time basis.

Reporting to the Field Operations Supervisor you will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of field activities in relation to gas escapes, disconnection/reconnection of services, new mains & services and general repair work to underground gas pipelines relevant Network assets.

On a day-to-day basis, your responsibilities will include:

• Working within a team involved with first onsite response to publicly reported leaks and incidents in Toowoomba & surrounding areas
• Construction of gas mains and services for commercial and domestic customers.
• Respond to and resolve gas supply issues in a safe and efficient manner
• Participate in an after-hours/on-call roster and be available for emergency incidents on an ad-hoc basis to manage incidents
• Work hours that suit the business which may require staggered start time and finish times. The spread of hours on an ordinary work day is between 06:00 to 18:00
• Proficient and safe use of manually operated equipment associated with excavation work; e.g. shovels, crowbars, jackhammers, wackers, grundomats etc
• Operation of a LR or MR truck, forklift, small excavator & bobcat. ( APA will supply training if needed)
• Called upon to locate network assets for in-house crews or contractors, provide site watch support for 3rd parties working around assets, support leak survey, pipeline patrols
• Self-manage high volume workloads and prioritise to ensure compliance with timeframes
• Carry out preventative maintenance activities on network assets to ensure that the network operates in a safe, efficient & effective manner
• Work in an outdoors environment exposed to a wide range of conditions

To excel in this position you will have the preferred following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes: ( APA will supply training if needed)

• Experience in a similar utilities industry or a working knowledge of gas distribution including technical problems that may occur throughout the gas distribution process
• Ability to fulfil manual work requirements of the position – confident use of hand tools and/or mechanical equipment
• Current MR Class Driver’s License
• Forklift licence
• Bobcat & excavator tickets
• Good computer/laptop/tablet literacy
• Good written and verbal communication as well as the ability to follow instructions
• Able to work well in a team environment and build maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Gas fitter licence ( not essential )
• Able to complete projects/jobs with appropriate tracking and monitoring to achieve objectives of time and budget
