The Maintenance Fitter is responsible for the servicing and repairs to equipment, production services and buildings and reports to the Engineering / Maintenance Manager.

Principal Accountabilities

• To conduct themselves appropriately as per the employees hand book and company code of conduct.
• To ensure all operations are carried out in a safe, hygienic & efficient manner.
• To ensure that all plant, product and practices comply with specification at all times.
• To ensure Standard Operating Procedures are followed consistently and accurately.
• Ensure all work sheets, records are filled out accurately and on time.
• Ensure cause of all down time, repairs undertaken and where applicable corrective action required is documented.   
• To train operators based on Standard Operating Procedures where required.
• To ensure that Hygiene and Housekeeping Standards are maintained.

Principal Responsibilities

Costs

• Ensures adherence to budgeted costs.

• Identify and eliminate waste in all aspects of maintenance operation.

• Undertake work in the best sequence to ensure continued operation of plant, either as directed or in consultation with respective supervisors / team leaders.

Productivity

• Ensures plant and equipment servicing and repairs are completed according to statutory requirements and according to the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Maintains all paperwork according to the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Reduction in response / repair times and plant down times.

Quality of Products and Services

• Maintains high standards of Housekeeping and Hygiene according to the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Recommends changes or modifications to any existing equipment.
• Ensures any intrusive maintenance is recorded  and managed in the correct manners so as to prevent any contamination of product.

Working environment: People management and development

• Assists in training of new Maintenance Tradesperson / Mechanical / Fitters.
• Contributes effectively and constructively to the maintenance team.

Safety and Continuous Improvement

• Ensures no activity is undertaken unless it can be in a safe manner.

• Contributes to the continuous improvement program.

Key Performance Indicators

• Number of breakdowns in equipment, production services and buildings.
• Increasing % in Preventative vs. Unplanned Maintenance.
• Reduction in response / repair times and plant down times.

• The Standard of Performance for the Maintenance Tradesperson / Mechanical / Fitter is achieved when the duties specified are conducted to the satisfaction of the Engineering / Maintenance Manager.

Principal Authorities

The Maintenance Tradesperson / Mechanical / Fitter has the authority to cease production or any other works if at any time there is:

• Danger to any person.
• Danger / damage to any equipment.
• Excessive waste occurring.
• Product does not meet specification. 

Any such action must be justifiable to the Leading Hand / Supervisor and Management.

Role Pre-requisites

• The ability to work both autonomously and within a team.
• An ability to analyse and solve problems.
• Good communication skills.
• An ability to assess and prioritise jobs.
• Good time management skills.
• Availability to work shift work.
• Availability to be part of a roster that provides after hours on call service for a 24/7 operating factory.

The successful candidate will also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
