Spriggy is a rapid growth Australian start-up, based in Sydney. We are redefining the way families teach their children about money in today's increasing cashless world via our unique app and prepaid cards service.

We launched the product in late 2016 and have over 100,000 members with over 300 parents and kids joining Spriggy everyday!

We are now on the hunt for an experienced Data Scientist to join our team!

 What you'll do:

  • Apply your expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining and data visualisation to help formulate problems and inform decisions across the entire business.

  • Surface and communicate insights to both technical and non-technical team members.

  • Work closely with Product Owner and the Engineering team to formulate and solve problems and to identify trends and opportunities.

  • Use data to test and validate hypotheses.

  • To use data to help facilitate deeper, foundational style research projects, i.e. user journey mapping, user personas etc.

Your skills and experience:

  • Are able to see beyond the numbers and understand how our users interact with our core/business products.

  • Strong statistical analysis, data exploration and statistical modelling abilities.

  • Experience with hypothesis formation, data mining, feature engineering and predictive modelling.

  • Experience in with Python and R.

  • Experience with statistical packages such SciPy, NumPy, Sci-kit Learn, Pandas, R etc.

  • Experience with large data sets and distributed computing (Hive/Hadoop/Spark/Redshift).

  • Able to write serviceable code (e.g. Scala, Python, C++) and comfortable working with and around a professional software development team.

  • Knowledge of git and git flow and Linux OS would be great, but not required.

  • Any personal data projects are a big plus (think World Cup predictor, U.S. election prediction, sentiment analysis in Twitter… anything really that shows you're a bit data obsessed and can see a project through end-to-end).

Non-technical skills:

  • Ability to derive meaningful insights from data.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills who is able to communicate with non-technical team members in a written and verbal form.

  • Ability to clearly communicate and the results of analyses and insights with stakeholders.

  • Ability to initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance.

Experience and education:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Actuaries and other technical fields.

  • 4+ years of experience in a quantitative analytics role or a postgraduate qualification in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Physics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science).
