About the role
The position will require an individual with excellent communication and organizational skills and exceptional scientific acumen to drive translational research in support of early clinical development of novel and innovative oncology agents. Reporting to the VP, Research and as part of our Discovery group you will:
- Lead the biological development of our innovative cancer products by managing internal and external relationships, designing and managing in vivo efficacy studies and critically reviewing data from contract labs and academic collaborators
- Design and evaluate test methods including published methods and compound evaluations with the goal of efficiently progressing a portfolio of novel anticancer agents
- Keep up to date with the relevant contract service provider offerings as well as scientific literature and techniques in order to develop the most efficient, cost effective efficacy and tolerability studies and support critical project decisions
- Maintain detailed records of work and provide clear interpretation of results including preparing scientific presentations, business cases, cost benefit analyses and writing/reviewing reports
- Summarize and present scientific findings in a clear manner to facilitate management decisions
- Work effectively and collaboratively with Discovery chemists and broader team
- Make recommendations on ways of improving studies, techniques, quantitative methods and quality control
- Maintain awareness of and comply with Occupational Health and Safety legislation
- Contribute to risk identification, analysis and management.

Skills and experience
Applications must explicitly address the following key selection criteria:
- Essential: Applicants must have the right to live and work in Australia
- Qualification of BSc (Hons) and a PhD or equivalent in Cancer Biology or Medical Science as a minimum
- Possess a broad range of technical expertise and knowledge in cancer biology, including demonstrated expertise in setting up and running preclinical efficacy experiments on oncology agents.
- Highly desired: Broad understanding of oncology research and early product development.
- Highly desired: Prior experience in running multiple projects with a commercial focus and/or formal project management experience
- Highly desired: A strong interest in regularly reviewing relevant scientific literature and patents, as well as contributing to the group's idea generation and innovation
- Experience in a commercially focused research environment would be an advantage.
