The City of Parramatta is growing at a fast rate through the increase of its areas in 2016, and the dramatic increase of development in its local government area. There is an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join the legal services team of Council for 6 months. The role is challenging and varied, providing an excellent opportunity to develop professionally within the well-regarded and collegiate legal team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- • Assist with a variety of legal matters, including advising, drafting, reviewing and negotiating terms of various statutory and commercial contracts, covenants, deeds and agreements, leases and licenses.
- • Assist in managing appeals in the Land & Environment Court and Local Court prosecutions.
- • Assist in drafting notices and orders.
- • Prepare a range of legal advice for all directorates of Council.
- • Assist in ensuring all processes and actions of Council meet statutory obligations.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- • Minimum of 4+ years PQE
- • Demonstrated experience in providing in-house/ government legal services and/ or experience of private legal practice.
- • Experience in Local Government, Environmental and Planning Law, and Contract Law.
- • Demonstrated ability to reason conceptually, and solve complex problems and high priority issues.
- • Ability to participate and contribute to a team environment.
- • Proven research and analytical skills.
- • Excellent organisational skills and track record in meeting deadlines.
- • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and the ability to work in a politically sensitive environment.
