We are currently seeking an Assistant Compliance Counsel to support Efic’s Compliance function. This exciting position offers a hands-on opportunity to work within a small team as part of the Legal Services Team in Sydney and will report to the Senior Compliance Counsel.
This role will:
- Assist with keeping Efic staff trained and informed of topical compliance issues
- Assist with the preparation, updates and roll-out of policies, procedures and training (including annual compliance training)
- Assist with implementing and updating the Compliance Plan and monitoring due dates / action items for compliance activities
- Keep abreast of changes to relevant legislation and regulations, and research as required
- Assist the Compliance function with its role in overseeing the Anti-Money Laundering / Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) Program
- Assist with managing Efic’s compliance with applicable laws (e.g. PGPA, Privacy laws, AML / CTF laws, anti-bribery laws etc.), relevant industry codes, DFAT and Berne Union/OECD guidance, and Efic’s compliance policies and procedures (e.g. in relation to incident and breach escalation, conflicts of interest, staff trading, anti-bribery/corruption, document management and confidentiality etc.)
- Provide advice and guidance to the business on compliance and regulatory matters
- Liaise with auditors and internal and external stakeholders as required
- Assist with compliance document management
- Assist with customer complaints
- Assist with Freedom of Information Act requests
- Work closely with Legal and internal business teams as required, including liaising on risk management and coordination of compliance programs
About you:
Preferred (but not essential):
- 1-2 years’ experience in a commercial law firm, or compliance-related experience
- Admitted to practice as a lawyer in Australia (or in the process of becoming admitted)
Essential:
- Australian law degree qualified
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Good work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to manage and prioritise work
- Ability to use judgement where required
