The Opportunity

The Medibank Legal Team has an opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join the team on a part-time (0.6) basis. You will provide strategic, high quality and cost effective legal services to a number of areas of the business. This includes managing the provision of legal services by external law firms and supporting the broader Medibank team as requested by the General Manager of legal.

Key responsibilities will include:

· Providing privacy advice and competition law advice, as well as advice under the Corporations Act and ASIC Act in respect of resident and non-resident PHI product sales (including consumer and business products);

· Assisting the development and implementation of policies, strategies and systems for the efficient provision of internal and external legal services in conjunction with the Legal team;

· Providing detailed advice and support regarding the commercial operations of contracts as well as negotiations;

· Representing the legal team at internal and external forums;

· Willingness to get involved in the business and engage on non-legal issues where appropriate.

About You

You will have a strong business partnering skillset with demonstrated experience in providing legal advice to a broad stakeholder group in large corporate (preferably a highly regulated environment) or in-house. You take pride in establishing trust and building relationships, and possess superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills. You are extremely well organised and take a proactive and positive approach to your work.

Additionally you will have an appropriate qualification (LLB or similar) and are admitted to practise law in an Australian state or territory, and hold a current practising certificate. Exposure to a wide range of areas of commercial practice including experience in competition/consumer law is required, as is good business judgment with the ability to develop effective and pragmatic solutions to complex legal and business issues
