The Legal Liability Specialist reports into the Head of Claims and works with the Home and Motor Claims teams on pre-litigated and litigated matters to provide legal advice, champion ethical conduct and balance customer and business outcomes.
The Legal Liability Specialist will be responsible for a portfolio of work and performance will be measured on the quality of advice and claims outcomes vs expenditure.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building a deep and effective understanding of our relationships with business partners to understand their business drivers and strategic priorities.
- Driving results by meeting the objectives of your team and those of our business partners.
- Providing high quality and robust advice incorporating all legally and commercially viable options for consideration.
- Consider and recommend next steps of action to the business, based on advice and insights.
- Engage with legal providers and closely manage their advice, cost and performance.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with all internal key stakeholders and share portfolio expertise to improve business decisions, ways of working and manage shareholder expectations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external shareholders such as the legal panel, experts and partners that build trust and transparency to deliver business outcomes.
To be considered for this position you will have:
- Minimum 5-8 years PQE in private practice/in-house preferred in the areas of insurance law, including knowledge of home and motor insurance products, claims and coverage issues, managing claims and disputed insurance matters.
- Strong knowledge of Claims discipline, practices and products.
- Strong technical insurance and policy interpretation skills.
- Highly developed legal skills (e.g. written communications, advisory, relationship building).
- Ability to attend to multiple priorities and work autonomously in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
- Self-identification of development opportunities and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Proactive, flexible and embracing of working within a constantly changing environment.
- Maintain personal balance under pressure of short and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
This role is offered on a part-time basis covering 8 to 15 hours per week. The working arrangement can be flexible for the right candidates (ie 1 or 2 days per week, or 3-4 days of shorter hours) The role is offered as an in-office role based in the Chatswood office and cannot be performed as ‘work-from-home’ at the present time.
