Senior Litigation & Commercial Lawyer

You will be responsible for:

• Providing expert legal advice on all matters relating to Metro, particularly workplace relations, litigation, claims, human rights and equal opportunity cases, industrial relations and occupational health and safety issues.
• Instructing and receiving advice from external lawyers in appropriate matters
• Oversee and advise in relation to the procurement process, including tender processes and negotiation and drafting of contracts for Metro for an extensive range of goods, services and capital contracts
• Providing legal advice in respect of the procurement function
• Advising in relation to minor claims and disputes and assist in managing litigation as required
  
  

• Tertiary Qualifications comprising Bachelor of Laws and a current Practicing Certificate in Victoria (without conditions) is essential
• At least 10 years’ post admission experience as a Solicitor, having a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of complex legal matters
• Ability to lead and manage team members
• Strong strategic skills complemented by the ability to make legal decisions that will place Metro in a position that minimizes its risks
• Ability to deal with political and public sector issues and constraints of a sensitive nature
• High level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
• Ability to investigate to obtain, clarify and validate issues
• A high level of initiative and demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in advising senior managers and others on sensitive issues
• Ensure that the business is made aware of any changes to or new acts, legal requirements or ethical standards
• High level of legal, conceptual and analytical skills
