As Principal Solicitor, build and maintain a dynamic team focussed on meeting the legal needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged community members.  Assist the team to adopt or develop flexible approaches to service delivery as appropriate. 

Ideally you will meet the following criteria
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, an unrestricted Practising Certificate as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and NSW.
  • At least four years’ experience as a practising solicitor, with relevant experience in working with vulnerable or disadvantaged people
  • A current driver’s licence.
  • A willingness to travel and preparedness to be accommodated overnight on a regular basis to provide outreach throughout the catchment area.
Applicants with the following criteria will also be regarded favourably:
  • Demonstrated experience providing legal services, including representation, to disadvantaged people, including but not limited to an ability to identify and understand issues effecting disadvantaged clients and communities along with a commitment to social justice, and including the ability to provide the range of services required (for example Credit and Debt matters, Family Law, Civil Law, Welfare Rights, Family Violence and Criminal Law.)
  • Ability to provide legal leadership within the community sector, taking a community development approach to service delivery and developing community partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, manage and work collaboratively with solicitors, social workers, counsellors and other professionals, administrative staff, students and volunteers
  • Capacity to work autonomously as well as with teams and to use initiative, set priorities, organise and manage case workloads and files.
  • Knowledge of issues relating to service delivery in a rural and outreach context.
  • Ability to effectively undertake community legal education initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively participate in relevant law reform initiatives.
  • Ability to establish new programs in line with funding requirements.
  • Ability to plan and set service delivery priorities.
