About the role

Due to an exciting period of growth we have a new opportunity for an Employment Lawyer to join the team on a part time (3-4 days per week) basis in Chatswood. 

The Employment Lawyer is responsible for execution of employment litigation activities, including negotiation, legal writing, oral advocacy and counselling.  A solid working knowledge of the legal principles that govern the employer-employee relationship including the Fair Work Act, the Work Health and Safety Act, and workers compensation laws. This role may be required to represent Ventia in disputes, claims and contract disagreements. 

The purpose of this role is to assist the building employee relations capability, enabling management effectiveness and accountability through proactive employee relations operations and ER/IR strategy.

Reporting to the Group Employment Relations Manager, the Employment Lawyer position is required to assist and collaborate on the development IR plans, to ensure IR initiatives align with contractual business needs and other company initiatives including Winning Work preparation and mobilisation and general business liaison.

Key responsibilities will be to:

  • Build and maintain effective, trusted and professional interpersonal relationships across the business as a trusted advisor. 
  • Be persuasive at negotiating and resolving technical issues with the ability to provide meaningful insights and trends on a variety of employee matters through the tracking and analysis of metrics. 
  • Lead the way by demonstrating high levels of integrity, honesty and ethical behaviour, exercising good judgement with a solution’s focus providing accurate and timely guidance regarding laws, regulations, policies, procedures and practices related to employment relations.

About you

To be successful in this role you will hold relevant Degree in Human Resources, Law, Business or a related discipline and have a minimum of 5 years Employee Relations or equivalent HR management experience. You will have proven experience in a similar role with strong communication skills as well as a high level of attention to detail. 

You will have proficient knowledge of Fair Work Act, other State and Federal employment and EEO laws. In addition you will have:

  • Ability to demonstrate collaborative interpersonal and consultative processes at a professional level.
  • Demonstrated high level of written & persuasive verbal communication skills
  • An ability to proactively identify risks and adaptively manage in a complex matrix environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • An ability to provide cogent argumentation at all levels of the business
