The role
We are seeking an experienced migration lawyer with a minimum of one years’ post admission experience. The Migration Lawyer will provide legal advice and assistance to clients in the area of migration. The Migration Lawyer will contribute to developing legal precedents through our significant judicial review case load and will enjoy finding new ways of delivering legal services by using technology.
Key responsibilities
- Provide timely and accurate migration advice to clients and meet deadlines as needed
- Assess the eligibility of clients for temporary or permanent residency
- Deal in an effective, respectful and ethical manner at all times with clients
- Prepare, review and lodge visa applications, tribunal appeals, judicial review appeals and requests to the Minister
- Prepare legal submissions and undertake research
- Manage a paralegal
- Enter and maintain client information in the client database
- Ensure all professional and other obligations such as continuing professional development are maintained
- Other duties from time to time
Qualifications and experience
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications and experience:
Essential:
- Legal practicing certificate
- Registered as a migration agent
- Experience in a similar role (minimum 1 year)
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Keen problem solver who loves finding novel approaches to problems
Desirable:
- Second language including Tamil, Arabic, Farsi, Vietnamese, Hazaragi, Urdu, Mandarin, Hindi
