The 360-bed Melbourne Metro YHA caters for a wide range of guests including backpackers, families, and groups. It is ideally located in North Melbourne only minutes from the famous Queen Victoria Markets and free CBD tram zone.
We are looking for an outstanding, outgoing and highly motivated Deputy Manager with great interest and passion in the backpacking industry to assist the Manager to oversee the daily operation of the hostel.
In this role you will:
- Oversee the hostel’s day-to-day activity and assist the Manager in ensuring the smooth function of all departments,
- Further your knowledge of hostel operations including finances, yield management, purchasing, and more,
- Contribute to the bigger picture and assist the Manager in developing business
- Assist the Hostel Manager in the recruitment, supervision, and training of approximately 10 staff,
- Attend key YHA trainings and meetings to keep up to date with company info and engage with other hostel managers,
- Assume overall responsibility for the hostel in the Hostel Manager’s absence.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- A people person with fantastic communication skills,
- Capable of leading a team and confident using authority when necessary,
- Proficient in software applications including Property Management Systems, tour desk management and Microsoft Office Suite;
- A creative problem solver and have the ability to work well under pressure
- Happy to step into any role when necessary and perform a wide range of duties, and
- Experienced in the backpacking industry and understands what makes travelers tick
