Orpheus Island Lodge is a luxury 5 star property, set within the spectacular Great Barrier Reef. We are seeking a Master <24m / Divemaster. In this position you will be central to ensuring our guests experience the very highest levels of service and safety whilst on our boats, as well as being responsible for the overall running of activities on the Island. Working in our Marine department you will participate and assist in all boating operations and undertake passenger trips in and around the island – including dive and snorkel trips, fishing, island cruises, Hinchinbrook tours, sunset cruises and private reef charters.
Presentable and with excellent communication skills, you will be a confident individual and an experienced public speaker used to supervising small groups of people providing an interactive and safe marine experience. Your attention to detail will be key in this role, as will strong organisational skills and the ability to give directions to guests in the event of an emergency.
A passionate and active team player will see you engaging with our guests throughout the resort, on hand to pass on your knowledge about marine life around the island and on the Great Barrier Reef.
You will already be an experienced Skipper and hold all relevant qualifications with sufficient skills to work on board motorised vessels. You will be experienced in all aspects of shipboard safety (including First Aid) and have a detailed knowledge of Australian Maritime legislation and best practice.
Essential Attributes
- Master < 24m dive sites are outside the limits of an open coxswain certificate
- Minimum MED III or Coxswain ticket for engineering
- Minimum Divemaster Certification
- Current PADI Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance
- Current Occupational Diving Medical AS2299 for work in the Dive Industry
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate
- Current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate
- Proven experience in the tourism industry
- Australian Resident or have a current Australian Working Visa
Desirable Attributes
- Knowledge of the Great Barrier Reef and its marine life
- Excellent communication skills
- PADI Open Water SCUBA instructor with dive tour and teaching experience in the tourism industry
This is a 'live on' Island based role so you must think carefully about the reality of living in a remote location for a long period of time.
