About the centre
The YMCA at Boroondara is made up of four leisure and aquatic facilities in the municipality, owned by the City of Boroondara and managed by the YMCA. The five facilities represented as the Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities (BLAF), work as a group to achieve key results areas agreed in consultation with the City of Boroondara.
The Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre features a 50m heated outdoor pool (open year-round), a 20m indoor warm water pool, group fitness program rooms and crèche facilities, a gym and café. HALC has a strong focus on providing classes including yoga and pilates, cycle studio, warm water exercise and flexible program space to accommodate growing local interest in general health opportunities.
About the role
Create a positive and inviting environment for all members and guests as a Café Attendant. Work in a fast-paced environment preparing food and beverages, cleaning, and working to ensure great customer service at all times.
The successful applicant will be highly motivated and passionate about food services. They will have a flexible and plentiful availability over summer and holiday periods.
Café Attendants will ensure that the café operates in accordance with the YMCA's Café and Healthy Food Strategy with the key goals being:
- Provision of healthy food
- Provision of outstanding service
- Provision of space and surrounds that promote community connection
Duties
- Coffee and other beverage services
- Food preparation
- General cleaning
- Stock ordering
- Ensuring the preparation and service of high-quality food and drinks
- Promote our healthy food and drink choices
- A strong customer service focus exists within the café and service is fast and friendly
- Ensuring that presentation is professional and meets YMCA guidelines
Selection criteria
With our focus on outstanding customer service, we are looking for a friendly and bubbly person who is able to create and maintain a welcoming environment for our members and guests. You will work alongside a team of other Café Attendants and report to the Frontline and Café Coordinator. You will work closely with the Duty Managers and ensure excellent communication between all areas of the centre to ensure a smooth running of the facilities.
Qualifications
Working With Children, Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion upon successful application), First Aid level 2, Food Safety Certificate, Barista Certificate (desired but not essential)
