Division 1 Registered Nurse

Care Coordinator – Clergy Care Team

Flexible part-time – 28 hrs p/w

The Organisation

The Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne (CAM) is the largest diocese in Australia with 210 parishes across metropolitan and rural Victoria as well as a number of agencies and offices. The Clergy Care Team is part of the work of the Ministry to Priests, which under the leadership of a priest director supports priests in their ministry emphasising the development of the whole person – pastoral, intellectual, human development and spiritual.  

The program provides services to priests in retirement in the community. The Clergy Care Team works closely with Villa Maria Catholic Homes (the aged care agency of the diocese); Ministry to Priests; the Priests Retirement Foundation; and the Vicar General.

The Role

The primary purpose of the role is working in collaboration with and under direction of the Director, Ministry to Priests:

  • Develop and lead the implementation of health and wellbeing strategies for the priest community through education, and individually through case management.
  • Organise and operate community care programs that support retired and/or elderly priests to remain living within their preferred setting.
  • Promote a culture of health and well-being in the active priest cohort.
  • Assess individual needs, broker appropriate services, monitor the package of care being provided to the priest and liaise with service providers and community agencies.
  • Maintain records, participate in quality assurance activities and assist the Director and other staff members in the Clergy Care Team as required.
  • Sound time-management skills and ability to prioritise.
  • Excellent verbal and written, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail, quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to multi-task and work quickly and efficiently.
  • High level of integrity, honest and confidentiality, with an awareness and appreciation to Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within and across departments, agencies, ministries and parishes of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you need to fulfil the following criteria:

  1. Well-developed community nursing skills, ideally as they relate to the assessment for aged care, with the ability to develop and maintain support networks.  
  2. Ability to relate to a variety of people from a range of cultural backgrounds and presenting a range of health issues, develop sound working relationships, work with a spirit of generosity and achieve in a team environment.
  3. The ability to work with priests and develop strong empathetic professional relationships with them is essential.

 

The successful applicants will require

  1. Division 1 Registered Nurse with APHRA
  2. Gerontology Nursing qualifications or equivalent experience highly regarded
  3. A driver’s license
  4. National Police record check and Working with Children Check
