Purpose of Position

The provision of optimal emergency care for the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District in line with the strategies as determined by the Clinical Services Plan. The position also involves JMO and student teaching and participation in service development for Emergency Medicine. Involvement in continuing medical education, peer review and quality improvement are also key requirements.

We are seeking qualified Emergency Medicine Staff Specialists who enjoy practising Emergency Medicine in an environment with a high consultant clinical involvement and procedural workload. The successful applicants will be located across the District at either Wollongong Hospital, Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital, Shellharbour Hospital or Milton Ulladulla Hospital. Our District Emergency Departments see a combined total of nearly 150,000 patients per year. We have access to most specialities within our region, including general, trauma and sub-speciality surgery, general and sub-speciality medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and mental health.

Full time and part time permanent and temporary positions will be considered.

Salary: $228,834 - $309,164 per annum (based on full time). 25% ED Physician Allowance may apply.

You will work 4 x 10hour shifts as a full-time worker and enjoy a good mix of acuity, pathology and paediatrics.

The ISLHD Emergency Departments are accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for a total of 24 months of Advanced Emergency Registrar training. Further opportunities for teaching includes medical students from the local University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine through to the ACEM Emergency Medicine Certificate and Diploma. We also offer simulation, research and service development opportunities via these resources.

Selection Criteria

1. Registered/eligible for Medical Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 2. Fellowship or eligible for fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award. 3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment as well as a commitment to networking and developing Emergency Services across the District. 4. Evidence of leadership in effective communication and promotion of the CORE values in a multi-disciplinary team and a commitment to provision of exemplary clinical standards of practice. 5. Knowledge and evidence of applying quality improvement in the clinical environment including principles under National Standards, ACI and CEC. 6. Demonstrated commitment to the provision of teaching as well as providing learning opportunities to other staff and a commitment to continuing education and own professional development. 7. Demonstrated current competency in: * patient care for all triage categories, all ages; * cardiopulmonary resuscitation; * airway management; * early management of severe trauma; * management of medical, surgical, obstetric and paediatric emergency presentations; * assessment and management of acute mental health presentations. 8. Current drivers licence with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
