Infant Mental Health Fellow 2019 (paediatric)
There is an exciting opportunity in 2019 for a 12 month 0.5 EFT senior paediatric fellow to work with the hospital based Infant Mental Health program at RCH Mental Health. This is a training position funded by the State Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Initiative. It will include some work with the broader Hospital Consultation and Liaison Mental Health program. This is an accredited Advanced Trainee positions in General Paediatrics – Core Community/Developmental Paediatrics.
The core role of this position is undertaking comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment for infants with mental health problems and their families who are referred to the mental health service with a wide range of problems. This will initially be done in conjunction with other infant mental health clinicians. In addition to the direct clinical work, the successful application with work closely with their colleagues to provide secondary consultations to hospital based medical teams. The provision of secondary and tertiary consultation to Child Protection Services, Maternal and Child Health Services and other community-based family services working with infants may also be expected.
The position is based in a supportive clinical team, and includes individual and group based clinical supervision, consultation and support. It commences with a comprehensive orientation program in February which the successful candidate will be required to attend. There will be ongoing training and supervised experiences provided throughout the year in the assessment and management of a variety of psychological and developmental problems in infant and pre-schoolers. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake the Newborn Behaviour Observation training, and conduct NBO assessments as required.
There are also opportunities to become involved in research and to undertake your FRACP research project in the area of Infant Mental Health.
The position may have some flexibility, although the preferred days of the week are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in order to attend training and clinical meetings. A full time six month position may be considered for an outstanding applicant.
Please note that although this is a senior position, basic trainees may also be considered.
The position reports to Assoc. Prof. Campbell Paul, Senior Consultant Child and Infant Psychiatrist, and will work closely with the Infant Mental Health Team coordinator, Dr Megan Chapman.
The successful applicant will be required to undergo a Police Check and Working with Children Check. In addition, all International Medical Graduate applicants will need to have passed the IELTS test (results must indicate a score of 7 or above in all bands) in order to be successful in this position.
