Our client, a well respected and sought after solo specialist practice based at Auchenflower enjoys an unmatched reputation for solid staff retention rates along with a friendly and supportive workplace culture.  An exciting opportunity has presented for a highly experienced Senior Medical Secretary/Typist to join this team. 

This is a full time permanent position, Monday to Friday (38 hours a week).  

Key duties and responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Taking all incoming telephone calls and assisting patients with general enquiries, attending to and distributing messages in a timely manner
  • Scheduling patient appointments
  • Preparing and running patient clinics
  • Processing patient billing and receipting for consultations 
  • Performing banking and batching duties (with Medicare, DVA and Private Health Funds)
  • Ordering of clinical consumables and provide routine audits for monitoring of consumables and equipment
  • Receive and distribute both incoming and outgoing mail
  • Preparing patients for examinations and minor procedures (giving clear and accurate instructions to patients)
  • Typing of all clinical letters and correspondence with a high degree of accuracy
  • Maintaining a high level of professionalism and patient confidentiality 
  • A willingness to participate in professional development to enhance personal and professional effectiveness.

Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a Medical Secretary (preferably within a specialist setting)
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • Honesty, enthusiasm with a positive 'can do' attitude
  • An easy and respectful approach to all staff and patients when assisting them with any administrative support
  • Initiative and discretion
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality at all times regarding the practice, its patients and the specialist
  • Self motivation and determination to succeed and achieve excellence
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • A high standard of computer literacy (including experience using Genie software)
  • Fast and accurate medical typing skills
  • Ability to take ownership of a task and see it through to completion

Remuneration:

Up to $34 p/hour + super (depending on relevant skills and experience).
