About Us

Parramatta Mission offers community-managed programs and services. We are largely funded by the Commonwealth and NSW governments, and we work to assist people living with mental illness, family members or carers of people with mental illness, young people, those living in crisis (e.g. financial or emotional crisis), and  vulnerable communities or groups. We also provide food, accommodation, and support services to assist the most vulnerable people in our community. This includes crisis and transitional accommodation, meals, and emergency food assistance.

The Nepean Youth Severe Program is a mobile and assertive outreach treatment service. It provides multidisciplinary case management to young people aged 12 to 25 years old who reside in the Nepean Blue Mountains (NBM PHN) region who have, or are at risk of, severe mental illness, and can be supported in a primary care setting.

This project focuses on supporting young people with an emerging borderline personality disorder, with moderate to severe anxiety, or with emerging mood, conduct, or eating disorders, that cannot access NBMLHD services as they do not reach the LHD Mental Health Service’s threshold for care.

Purpose of the position

The service aims to provide early intervention services to young people aged 12 to 25 with emerging, serious mental illness. The service provided to these young people, and to their families, will be youth-friendly, accessible, consistent, and seamless. The service will assist young people with an emerging borderline personality disorder, with moderate to severe anxiety, or with emerging mood, conduct, or eating disorders. Such assistance will be in the form of early identification, and effective, evidence-based interventions, delivered by primary care and specialist providers working together within a collaborative, accessible, and integrated service framework.

The Team Leader will provide leadership and line management for staff within the team, and ensure adherence to the specialist clinical standards of the service. Alongside the Consultant Psychiatrist, they will contribute to the development of innovative clinical services, which will involve the development of partnerships with key agencies in the community.

In addition, the team leader will ensure that program area resources are managed effectively and efficiently, and will hold responsibility for the operational management, administrative management, and systems maintenance of the service.

The role involves the coordination of comprehensive, evidence-based clinical care coordination, psychological, and psychosocial interventions, consistent with the model of care.

Team Leader Position

The overall aims of clinical care are:

  • To provide early intervention in order to minimise the impact of severe mental illness on the normal developmental trajectory of the young person
  • To minimise the subjective distress of young people and their families associated with the experience of early onset of severe or complex mental health conditions
  • To screen and reduce the incidence of metabolic syndrome
  • To enable both symptomatic and functional recovery from a first episode of illness
  • To provide a responsive and seamless access to service for young people and their families/significant others.
