Purpose of Position

  • The Surgical Fellow will be a newly qualified surgeon looking for an opportunity to enhance their skills in a rural setting in the areas of elective and emergency surgery and outpatient surgical consultations. 
  • The Fellowship will also consist of clinical and research work as well as the provision of general surgery and services.
  • The Surgical Fellow will participate in the on-call roster, assist with the educational role of the department and provide clinical care to patients.

Applicants must have passed the Part II Examination.

  • Breast, Oncoplastic & Endocrine Surgery
  • Hepatobiliary, Oesophago-gastric & Bariatric Surgery
  • Colorectal Surgery
  • Skin Cancer & Melanoma
  • Endoscopy & ERCP

Selection Criteria

Evidence of a Medical qualification that is registrable with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Evidence, after full registration, of practice of medicine in the New South Wales Health System or in any other institution deemed by Murrumbidgee LHD to be of equivalent standing with recognition Letter of support from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons supporting fellowship placement in General surgery and indicating completion of Fellowship training requirements in General surgery and successful completion of the part II examination. Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education relevant to General surgery. Willing to commit to an equitable hospital on-call roster for Surgery Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health service colleagues as part of a multi disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team Willingness to teach medical students and other staff of the health service when reasonably requested with demonstrated understanding of and commitment to clinical quality improvement and peer review, equal employment opportunity and Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation Demonstrated significant experience relevant to General surgery and evidence of competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice, including trauma and emergency scenarios.
