Overview of the work area and position
The National Disability Insurance Scheme is increasing the demand for allied health services including allied health assistants who are qualified at a Certificate IV level.
We are recruiting two allied health assistant traineeship positions for residential community homecare service for locations in the Brisbane North (ie Brighton- Deception Bay ) and Brisbane Bayside ie ( Wynnum - Manly ).
Allied Health Assistants are allocated to a site(s) with a small number of high complex clients ( 3-6 ) in which they work closely and provide direct care and support activities.

Tasks and Procedures
The tasks allocated may be varied and include:
- Personal care ( dressing , toileting. showering, continence pads )
- Administration and client records maintenance
- Assistance with medication administration
- Cleaning and Homecare assistance duties
- Community Access and appointment support ( Medical )
- Allied Therapy Programme Implementation
- Day support and Shifts ie 6am - 6pm
- Evening and Night Support ie 6pm - 10pm
- Overnight Support - Inactive/Sleepover in a carers room
- Overnight Support - Active ie waking to provide support as needed between 10pm - 6am
Ideally we are seeking allied health assistants that are local to a community and area.
Supervision , Support and Rosters
These Allied Health Assistant positions will work under dual direction of allied health professionals and disability residential care supervisors to assist with the provision of a range of client care services for people with a disability and mental health care with a special focus on women's support needs.
Following induction this position should be considered a lone worker role while on rostered shift.
There will be periods of 'double up 'ie two staff for core care duties but you will be rostered for shifts when you are the primary care staff on site ie 1 person on site as the sleepover carer in the carers room.
Supervision and support is available through phone and oncall support.
Rostered Hours
The rostered hours are flexible but will include :
- Regular rostered day and evening shifts
- At least 1 sleepover shift per week
Length of Training
Traineeship positions are usually 6 month to 18 month fixed term contracts dependant on the schedule of commitment.
SPECIAL NOTE
Applicants who wish to obtain the qualification outside of this position / traineeship are invited to contact us to discuss RPL and alternative qualification options.
The allied health assistant position will be required to implement a number of client goal areas including :
- Physiotherapy - manual handling, use of hoists, mobility support, relaxation, positioning, pain and trauma support
- Occupational Therapy - toileting, dressing, personal care and appearance, independent living, teaching cooking, community access
- Speech and Language - use of visual aids, reading activities, positive communication in times of crisis
- Community Rehabilitation - mental health and behaviour support, caring, supporting and understanding clients within a victim empowerment framework for women who have experienced trauma and neglect and may demonstrate reactive behaviours including - pseudo seizures, self harming and attention seeking behaviour under the direction and supervision of qualified therapy staff.
At this level it is expected that you will provide high quality assistance and achieve sound outcomes for consumers across the lifespan under supervision, and in a variety of settings but primarily shared support in a private residential home.
The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to complete studies in a Certificate III and/or IV Allied Health Assistance during the traineeship.
This occurs through scheduled lecture periods as well as online training.
Additional information in relation to the traineeship study requirements will be discussed with shortlisted applicants.
Eligibility/Other Requirements:
To be eligible for this position you must be a Queensland Resident and meet suitability checks for working with children and vulnerable people ( Bluecard, Yellowcard currency and NDIS worker checks and mandatory training).
Drivers licence is required.
