Position Details

An exciting and unique opportunity exists for a motivated individual to join the Executive at AWH in the role of Director Mental Health. The Mental Health Directorate at AWH leads the efficient and effective management of proactive Mental Health in the North East of Victoria and southern NSW to achieve and maintain a standard of excellence in clinical practice that reflects the vision and goals of AWH.

 

The Director Mental Health will:

  • Contribute to the organisational strategic planning process by planning, setting and monitoring clear targets for mental health at AWH and will ensure that projects are linked to the Mental Health Strategic plan for AWH;
  • Lead the development, review and implementation of the annual operational, statement of priorities and quality plans for AWH mental health
  • Mentor and support Operational Directors with the development of service delivery initiatives, including funding submissions and other requirements for the delivery of services of mental health in the region.
  • Lead the development and provision of monthly reports to the Chief Executive Officer against key performance indicators for financial, human resources, clinical, quality and risk objectives, with the analysis, variance reporting and action undertaken.
  • Lead/develop and implement governance projects/quality committees and activities
  • Contribute to providing a standard of excellence in customer service.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and support to Operational Directors to ensure that appropriate management strategies are in place for the program areas to enable best practice services and strategic goals are delivered.
  • Assist in driving towards the development of a high performance culture through strong leadership through meaningful interpretation and communication of AWH's strategic direction and assist to create innovative work practices to assist staff with the change process.

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and equivalent professional body.
  • Post graduate management qualifications or equivalent experience
  • Significant senior management experience within public healthcare
  • Strong leadership skills that foster a positive team culture and sound working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a manager with an ability to initiate, lead and manage change
  • Demonstrated abilities in the development and implementation of operational plans and achieving outcomes
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexities of delivering mental health services within the Victorian mental health system
  • Sound financial and staff/human resource management skills
  • Experience in strategic and business planning, and the ability to develop grant applications
  • Understanding of health service provision under current state/federal funding models

Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate Criminal Record Screening paperwork/processes in order for AWH to meet its obligations regarding screening for serious criminal offences (within and external to Australia).  Applicants unable to commit to this screening process should not submit an application for employment.

Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.

This is a Category A position.  Successful applicants of Category A positions must provide evidence of vaccination prior to commencement.
