Diabetes Victoria is the leading charity and peak consumer body working to reduce the impact of diabetes in the Victorian community. We work to support, empower and campaign for all people with type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes, as well as those at risk. Diabetes Camps Victoria (DCV) is a partnership of Diabetes Victoria (as lead), the Royal Children’s Hospital and Monash Children’s Hospital. DCV coordinates and delivers six camps and one day activity per year for children with type 1 diabetes aged 4 to 17 years. 

The full-time, fixed-term (Long service leave cover to May 2019) position of Diabetes Camps Victoria Program Leader has overall coordination responsibility of DCV to ensure the quality and safety of the camps program; including ensuring professional and peer leaders are appropriately trained and perform their roles effectively, the camps are organised and children attending are well cared for (diabetes and general wellbeing) and have an enjoyable experience.

Key responsibilities of the role include –

  • recruitment and training of health professional and volunteer staff;
  • ordering and maintenance of medical supplies for camp;
  • attendance at camp (in the capacity of Camp Coordinator);
  • evaluation of camps;
  • staff rostering; and
  • allocating campers and staff to groups.

This role is a fantastic opportunity for a Registered Nurse Division 1 or Dietitian that is a credentialled Diabetes Educator (or working towards) with up-to-date clinical knowledge regarding diabetes and paediatric care. Please note, a Working with Children Check, current Police Check and a First Aid certification are essential requirements of this position. Knowledge and understanding of child safety legislation would be highly regarded.
