A contract position for a Mental Health Psychosocial Lead based in Darwin.

Your new company
This healthcare focussed not-for-profit organisation is currently seeking a Mental Health Psychosocial Support Lead for a 3-6 month contract with the possibility of extension.

Your new role
Reporting to the Needs Assessment Manager your role is responsible for leading the implementation of the National Psychosocial Support (NPS) measure within this organisation. The purpose of NPS measure is to provide psychosocial support services to assist people with severe mental illness resulting in reduced psychosocial functional capacity who are not eligible for assistance through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). In this role you’ll be accountable for;

  • Taking a lead coordination role of the NPS measure in the Northern Territory.
  • Liaising with Local Health Networks and other stakeholders regarding a planned regional approach to implementing the psychosocial support measure to ensure complementarity and flexible, efficient service delivery.
  • Liaising with mental health consumers in relation to a planned regional approach to implementing the psychosocial support measure in the Northern Territory.
  • Considering the priorities and approach in the NPS measure Bilateral Agreement Implementation Plan for the Northern Territory.
  • Undertaking establishment activities in relation to the measure to enable service delivery to commence by early 2019.
  • Maintaining funding and reporting arrangements.
  • Applying strategic commissioning framework and best practice engagement principles in co-designing programs through collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertaking an effective program management approach to the delivery of program activities.
  • Applying evidence based knowledge and understanding of the National and NT health systems, the National Mental Health reform agendas, community health and service needs, service delivery, clinician challenges and clinical pathways in designing commissioning activities.


What you'll need to succeed
As the successful candidate you’ll have:

  • Proven knowledge and experience working in health program management and/or health planning.
  • Excellent interpersonal, engagement and relationship building skills with a proven ability to build collaborative relationships with a wide range of internal and external clients, partners and stakeholders in an environment requiring cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mental health care and/or psychosocial support sector including rural and remote services, Indigenous health and cultural safety, and issues in cross cultural health service delivery.
  • Proven ability to develop collaborative programs within an organisation.
  • Relevant health qualification or additional knowledge and experience in mental health and psychosocial support are highly desirable.
  • Experience working in an environment requiring cultural sensitivity.
  • A current police check.
