Position Summary:         

A vacancy exists in the Anaesthetics Department at St Vincent’s Hospital for a staff specialist with sub-speciality interests in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and transplantation. We are looking for a dedicated, dynamic clinician with excellence in 3D transoesophageal echocardiography including echocardiography certification; substantial experience in anaesthesia for heart-lung transplantation and other mechanical support devices; and, a commitment to further education of ANZCA trainees & fellows. Involvement in research and quality improvement projects would also be desirable.

Interest in research is essential with involvement in Quality Assurance projects desirable. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in pre-anaesthetic assessment clinics for cardiac and non-cardiac surgical patients, provide anaesthetic services for structural heart procedures in the cardiac catheter lab, and non-cardiac anaesthesia service provision as required.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the core values of the Mary Aikenhead Ministries in their everyday practice.

The successful applicant will be required to participate in the cardiothoracic out of hours on-call roster.

Selection Criteria

1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia 2. Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); 3. Possess Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist’s State Award; 4. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Cardiac Anaesthesia including Transplant Anaesthesia, commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position; 5. Diagnostic Trans-Oesophageal Echocardiography (TOE) training, higher certification, experience and continuing education requirements as per ANZCA Guidelines; 6. Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes through clinical practice & research; 7. Demonstrated ability to provide high quality, compassionate care as evidenced by working as a leader & member of the multidisciplinary team, and active participation in quality assurance & governance activity: 8. Demonstrated commitment to teaching at speciality registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels with demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of the roles & responsibilities of an ANZCA fellow, use of the ANZCA Training Portfolio System and ANZCA curriculum for trainees.
