Where you’ll be working Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals with 500 beds, over 63,000 emergency presentations and treats more than 48,000 patients annually. It is the region’s tertiary referral hospital and provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and community-based services including; aged care, allied health, medicine and critical care, surgical and medical services, outpatient and referral services. What you'll be doing The Caesarean Section Midwife is responsible for attending caesarean sections to receive / resuscitate newborns in the Wollongong Hospital Operating Suite (TWH). The midwife liaises with TWH Nursing Unit Manager of Recovery, Day Surgery and Recovery Room staff. The midwife also liaises with TWH, Birthing Unit, Postnatal, Antenatal, Day Surgery and Neonatal Care staff to provide a seamless service for women and their babies. The Caesarean Section Midwife demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of this specialised practice area. The midwife demonstrates and contributes to effective ethical decision making; respects the decisions made by the woman within the ethical framework of midwifery practice and that of the organisation. The midwife shows sensitivity to the family’s needs, values and beliefs; and refrains from imposing personal values on others. The Caesarean Section Midwife functions within the Policies and Procedures of the Department of Health, Wollongong Hospital and the Nursing and Midwifery Division. In particular the Caesarean Section Midwife provides leadership in the facilitation of skin to skin as per hospital policy - Skin to Skin in Birthing Suite and Operating Theatres MAT POST CLIN GL 04. Successful applicants to the role must provide certified documentation of vaccination history and pathology as part of their recruitment documentation. Current neonatal resuscitation skills with recent clinical experience working in a Post Natal/Antenatal ward and Birthing Unit settings. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others. Recent demonstrated completion of breastfeeding education and sound knowledge and understanding of Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) principles. Demonstrate understanding of evidence based practice and critical thinking. Ability to provide clinical supervision & education to midwives and nurses, including students, and medical staff as required.
