NOTE: This position is required to participate on the 24 hour continuous shift as required, taking responsibility for all aspects of laboratory services offered out of hours, without on-site supervision.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Apply independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.
- Undertake diagnostic testing and related duties following Pathology Queensland established accredited protocols and standards within a single or multidisciplinary team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards
- Provide input in the development of scientific practices, procedures and protocols within the diagnostic and research work areas.
What we are looking for?
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described above under ‘Your key responsibilities', the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated knowledge, expertise and skill in the provision of diagnostic testing and clinical interpretation of results within a large multi-disciplinary laboratory.
- Demonstrated ability to participate in a multidisciplinary team and contribute a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to apply established principles to a multidiscipline service with provision of results and clinical advice in a client focused manner.
- Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation / certification.
Mandatory qualifications/professional registration/other requirements
The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognised university or tertiary institution.
Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
- Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, Department to a HHS, or HHS to Department).
