The Hospital
John Flynn Private Hospital is a 334 bed, acute care hospital located at Tugun, which is on the southern end of the Gold Coast, within 5 minutes from the Gold Coast Airport. The hospital provides services to the population of the Gold Coast and the Tweed Coast extending into the NSW Northern Rivers area.
John Flynn provides a wide range of health care services with a 24 hour emergency department, comprehensive cardiac services, general and orthopaedic surgery, cancer services, medical, maternity and paediatrics, renal dialysis, day surgery and rehabilitation services.
John Flynn have a Tier One Contract with the Department of Veteran Affairs and also provide services to the Gold Coast and Tweed Veteran community.
The campus consists of the main hospital building, specialist medical suites, the John Flynn Cancer Centre, and also includes additional services such as radiotherapy (radiation oncology), radiology (x-ray), pathology and a 24 hour pharmacy.
The Opportunity
We are pleased to announce the continuation of the Fellowship in Breast, Endocrine & Melanoma Surgery at both John Flynn Private (JFP) and The Tweed Hospital (TTH) for a one year period commencing January 2019.
This fellowship offers an outstanding opportunity for training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, Endocrine and Complex Melanoma and Soft Tissue Tumour Surgery, with a substantial clinical workload in operating sessions, post-op ward care, breast clinics and weekly multi-disciplinary meetings.
Applicants are expected to participate in a 1 in 3 on-call Fellows roster at Tweed Hospital sharing general surgical on-call duties with 2 other fellows in Upper GI and Colorectal. There are 8 General Surgeons at the Tweed/John Flynn Hospitals and is staffed by a full complement of Advanced Trainees in General Surgery. Expectations are that you will be involved in teaching supervising and mentoring at this level.
Essential Criteria
Applicants should hold a FRACS; be eligible for registration with AHPRA and NSW Medical Board; have recently completed advanced training in general surgery. This position involves working with 3 specialist surgeons and will assist with private surgical operations. You will be encouraged to participate in clinical programs, initiate research, oversee the Breast Outpatient and Breast Screening Assessment Clinics, and teach medical students.
The successful applicant for the position will be required to hold combined appointments both at JFPH and The Tweed Hospital. These appointments are mutually dependent.
You will require personal medical indemnity cover, but employer indemnity will be offered by Ramsay Health Care. Ramsay Health will pay a base retainer to the Fellow. Income will be supplemented from private surgical assisting, which can be retained in total by the applicant. In addition, a study grant to attend an appropriate conference during the year will be granted.
Remuneration and conditions for The Tweed Hospital are in accordance with the relevant NSW Award.
