Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation. An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and experienced Laboratory Assistant to join our Central Specimen Reception department within Austin Pathology to fill a permanent full-time position. Specimen reception currently operates a 24 hour service, 7 days a week. The occupant of this position must be willing and available to work at any time on any day of the week as rostered. These roster arrangements are not fixed and will change in response to changes in demand for services.

To be successful in this role you must demonstrate/Key responsibilities will include:

  • Laboratory experience.
  • Ability to enter data accurately.
  • Able to respond to enquiries for information on laboratory procedures or results.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team situation.
  • Basic understanding of simple laboratory tests.
  • Able to identify and prioritise patient requests according to laboratory procedure.
  • Basic laboratory skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist and support change.
  • Good organisational skills.
