Murdoch Children’s Research Institute iPSC Core Facility
The MCRI iPSC Core facility will be involved in the generation and characterization of induced pluripotent stem cells from patient somatic cells. The iPSCs generated will be used to study the underlying disease by the researchers who have requested them. These studies will improve our understanding of a range of diseases affecting children and will provide cells for medical research and drug development. The technologies and reagents we have developed will be applied to patient specific stem cells to investigate diseases of many body systems.
Research Assistant
We currently require a Full Time Research Assistant on a 12-month Maternity Leave contract to join the MCRI iPSC Core Facility. This position will entail a range of activities but specifically include derivation of new patient derived hPSCs, molecular and cell biological analysis of differentiating hPSCs.
You will also be responsible for:
- Laboratory budget management and reporting.
- Ordering and implementing lab management systems.
- Applying your expertise in the training of scientists in the culture and differentiation of hPSCs.
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role you will have:
Essential:
- Working with Children & National Police Clearance (if appointed) in compliance with the Victorian Governments Child Safety Standards.
- Tertiary qualification in BSc or BA /Honours/Masters or related discipline, plus an appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation.
- Extensive tissue culture experience, with a background in pluripotent cell culture preferred but not essential.
- Competence in flow cytometry and basic molecular biology techniques.
- Animal handling experience is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to complete lab management and administrative tasks such as ordering, preparing budget reports and invoicing preferred.
