Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) Requirements

It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment:

• Measles
• Mumps
• Rubella
• Varicella (chicken pox)
• Pertussis (whooping cough)
• Hepatitis B

Further vaccinations may be required due to particular risks for a role; examples include:

• Hepatitis A – Workers in regular contact with untreated sewerage
• Q Fever – Research or Laboratory staff regularly handling specimens

All new employees who will be working in clinical areas must be assessed for their risk of tuberculosis and screening undertaken if required.

Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (ie one HHS to another HHS, Department to a HHS, or HHS to Department).

Purpose of the Role:

• The Department of Anaesthesia and Perfusion Services will assist both appointees to develop: a consultant approach; an interest in continuing education; an interest in teaching skills; an understanding of research, methods and techniques' a responsible attitude and commitment to the training of junior staff; an interest in professional activity in anaesthesia and intensive care. 
• This position is to provide a high quality service within the Health Service.

The department is a leader in cardiothoracic anaesthesia, ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia, transthoracic echocardiography and perioperative medicine and we would envisage tailoring a fellowship to subspecialist level in an area or areas of interest. 

Provisional fellowship training can be designed around the learning needs and objectives of the final year Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) trainee.  We offer training and experience in adult anaesthesia for a wide range of specialties including General, Vascular, Urological, Orthopaedic, and Cardiothoracic Surgery.  In addition, the department supports an Acute Pain Service and Perioperative Medicine programme both assisted by Specialist Nurses.  The hospital is the major referral centre for complex cardiothoracic surgery for Queensland and Northern New South Wales, and has a large orthopaedic programme including primary, revisional and fracture arthroplasty.  Support for training in echocardiography (TTE and TOE) and/or regional anaesthesia will be provided and recent appointees have completed postgraduate qualifications successfully. 

This position has prospective accreditation for provisional fellow training from ANZCA.
