The Opportunity

An opportunity has become available for a Senior Manager, Government Relations. The role will support the company’s strategy and business plans in Australia by facilitating strong engagement with government, peak industry bodies and other key stakeholders to influence strategic outcomes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working with internal stakeholders to determine Toll’s public policy priorities and develop a strategy to achieve those outcomes. In the short term this includes road safety and the regulation of heavy vehicles and the development of new major infrastructure projects
  • Providing strategic advice and support to Toll’s executive on matters of public policy and government relations
  • Maintaining awareness of broad public policy issues and engaging internal and external stakeholders to address these as they arise
  • Developing and maintaining relations with government officials to build productive relationships among key stakeholders to support positive commercial and policy outcomes
  • Developing opinion pieces and identify media and speaking opportunities to advance Toll’s agreed strategic policy position.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor Degree in Public Affairs, Public Policy, Communications or related discipline and significant experience in government or government relations at a senior level. They will have demonstrated experience in public policy development, especially in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

Along with proven relationship building skills they must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as a deep understanding of audience and tone in order to influence decision makers. They will have strong organisational skills along with the ability to multi task and prioritise and the ability to work with internal stakeholders to create a clear strategy that addresses short and long term deliverables, and a clear roadmap to execute. Knowledge of the political environment and regulatory arrangements for freight and logistics in Australia would be a key benefit.
