The Company

The Role

As a full time, permanent Assessment Planner, you will have the opportunity to rotate between the Development Assessment and Development Advisory units as based in Leichhardt, working on the processes and applications under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Local Government Act. You will also offer advice on concerning development matters, be involved in lodgement and duty town planning service as well as assess and report on development applications and other applications (including S.96 applications, S.82A reviews). Reporting to the Team Leader of Development Services, your main responsibilities include:

  • Provide formal Pre-Development Application advice.

  • Deliver accurate, timely and consistent advice to the public through a duty town planning service.

  • Carry out the lodgement of development and related applications to ensure applications are complete

  • Respond to verbal and written requests for advice concerning development matters.

  • Participate in the preparation of policies, procedures, process improvements and guidelines

  • Participate as part of a cooperative Development Assessment/Advisory Services Team.

  • Maintain an awareness of industry trends and legislative reform

  • Advise the Team Leaders of matters likely to impact on the section’s core activities.

  • Act in the position of Senior Planner as required by Team Leader or Manager.

 

Essential to your success is

  • Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in the application of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and Local Government Act in relation to regulatory processes and the assessment of development and associated applications.

  • High level communication skills, both verbal and written, including report writing skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment.

  • Commitment to quality customer service.

  • NSW Class C Driver’s Licence.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce work within established timeframes and with limited supervision.

  • Working knowledge of computer applications.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to equal employment opportunities,

     

Desirable but not essential:

  • Qualifications in a relevant field such as urban design, heritage conservation, architecture, environmental studies, building surveying or other relevant discipline.

  • Understanding of, or experience of heritage matters and Land and Environment Court procedures.
