The Combat Systems Engineer will provide engineering support for the Aegis Weapon System (AWS) through engineering oversight of AWS, integration and test of minor upgrade work and sustainment for the DDG’s. 

In addition to this building on the experience of existing personnel, expand shore facility support for DDGs as required whilst providing technical and combat systems engineering support to future Aegis-based programs. 

 Your responsibilities will include (not limited to): 
  • Provide engineering guidance and assessment across all elements of the Aegis Weapon System (AWS).
  • Undertake Australian based engineering analysis of the AWS.
  • As a subject matter expert, provide advice to RAN on AWS individual element roles & interfaces within the AWS.
  • Be responsible for governance of the AWS design in accordance with Seaworthiness requirements
  • Understand potential modes of degradation of the AWS.
  • Have the knowledge and delegation to provide Judgement of Significance (JoS) to the customer both in build and in service.
  • AWS update and upgrade activities, in context of Australian use and experience.
  • Input into the requirements and design of the Combat System for future programs
  • Work to support the AWS in the DDG Combat System enterprise and future program opportunities.
This role is fairly hands-on, and our successful candidate will have demonstrable ability to deliver to the depth and breadth of this role.

You will have skills and experience in:

  • Prior AEGIS experience is desirable for the success of this role.
  • Background in dealing with Government stakeholders
  • Substantial experience in Combat System engineering in a maritime environment.
  • Familiarity with Combat System design and operation, and adaptation data processes and tools.
  • Knowledge of systems requirements, validation, and verification concepts.
  • Ability to conduct technical analysis of product anomalies and communicate effectively the resolution to the problem.
  • Experienced in assessing the impact of proposed changes and advise Engineering Management of that impact and proposed mitigations
  • Exceptional skills required to build ongoing relationships with the Customer, Prime Contractor and subcontractors
Please note that the successful applicant will be based in Sydney or Adelaide. Travel to Sydney or Adelaide as appropriate will be required from time to time.
