  • Regular time in lieu day off each fortnight
  • You will be required to work a 14-day roster including working every 2nd weekend and at least one afternoon shift per week. You will receive applicable penalty rates.

Ranger with animal handling experience!

As our Ranger – Animal Control you will be Council’s specialist on all companion animal matters, providing support and guidance to staff on the provisions of the NSW Companion Animals Act and Regulation, general animal care and handling and improvements in companion animal management. You will also be Council’s specialist companion animal handler, providing support and guidance to staff on the correct and safe methods of impounding and transporting stray and/or injured animals.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate animal handling and impounding experience of dogs and other companion animals, as well as have an understanding of the State legislation and regulations relating to companion animals.

The successful applicant will also undertake general Ranger functions in accordance with Council’s codes, policies and procedures and will be a member of Council’s Regulatory Services team.

You must be capable of working within the physical requirements of the position.

Employment in this position is subject to a Police Check for criminal history.

Essential Criteria

  • Currently undertaking Certificate IV Local Government Regulatory Services or equivalent
  • Demonstrate highly developed written and oral communication skills, combined with proven ability to negotiate and interact on sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated animal handling experience
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, training or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, plan, organise, set priorities and manage a variety of concurrent tasks
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using document management systems such as HPE Content Manager or similar, relevant PC applications and digital imaging and data entry skills
  • Accurate record keeping including use of officer notebooks, file-notes and archiving of information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a key member of a team with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the State legislation and regulations relating to companion animals
  • Current Class C driver’s licence

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience developing and reviewing workplace procedures and providing workplace training
  • Demonstrated experience providing training and/or education programs
  • Knowledge of and practical experience in Local Government enforcement, or similar role and demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations including but not limited to the following: NSW Protection of the Environment Operations Act, NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, NSW Roads Act, NSW Roads (General) Regulation, NSW Local Government Act, NSW Road Rules, NSW Impounding Act, Obstructions of roadways and footpaths, building site offences
  • Demonstrated experience in using an electronic penalty notice system such as PinForce or the like
