Permanent, Part - Time, 72 hours per fortnight

Salary Range = $45,929.09 - $59,775.43 per annum on pro rata basis (subject to skills and experience)

The Business Unit

The Children’s Services Business Unit provides high quality child education and care services. This Group provides care and education for children aged between six weeks and twelve years, in accordance with all relevant legislation. They do this through delivering Long Day Care, Pre-school, Family Day Care, Vacation Care and Occasional Care Services to our community.

The Role and Responsibilities

Working within a team environment and reporting to the Children’s Service Director, the role of cook is to prepare well balanced culturally appropriate and nutritious meals in accordance with relevant legislation, and Council, Service and Centre Philosophy, Policies and Procedures, including Centre’s Nutrition Policy and Food Safety Regulations.

Plan the weekly menu in consultation with the Director or other staff as required.

Prepare meals including lunch, morning and afternoon tea, in accordance with the menu.

Adapt menu and ingredients, considering the:

  • Nutritional requirements of the age group
  • Cultural and religious differences of children
  • Additional food requirements of individual children
  • Specials needs of children 0-2 years
  • All children with allergies are catered for with a list on display in the kitchen
  • Displaying weekly menus for parent information and make any changes to menus as necessary
  • Actively seek the involvement of families and staff in menu planning and provide recipes to parents as requested

Selection Criteria

  • Successful completion of a course in child protection.
  • Food Handling Certificate or willingness to undertake within first three months of employment.
  • Knowledge of nutritional requirements of children aged from 0-6 years.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements relating to food storage and food preparation.
