About the Role

The Community Wellbeing team is to lead innovative community development practice in the strategic planning, management and integrated delivery of cost effective, high quality programs and projects including coordinate the provision of community development, advocacy and social inclusion initiatives.

The position will provide guidance, leadership and accountability within the unit in the preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of integrated community wellbeing programs, optimise the delivery of community initiatives, early intervention and social support services to connect people to people and people to community.in the areas of access and inclusion, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, young people, children, and healthy ageing. The role will collaborate with key stakeholders in identifying community sector needs, and building community for the Inner West local government area.

The role will lead a team of community service professionals to deliver integrated and collaborative services aligned with the community strategic vision. You will lead and inspire the team, coach and develop staff, facilitate partnerships across Council and within the community, manage Commonwealth and State Service Agreements, help solve problems and resolve issues, and model achievement of goals and commitments

Key duties

Reporting to the Community Wellbeing Manager, you will lead, supervise and collaborate with your
team and the relevant stakeholders and partners applying a strengths and evidence based approach
to the delivery of the following functions:

  • Identification of the community’s needs and industry trends to assist in proactive planning and
    innovative provision of integrated community wellbeing programs
  • Timely preparation and implementation of strategic advice and direction in regards to Community
    Wellbeing, social issues, advocacy and community service programs
  • Effective and high quality community, stakeholder and partnership engagement
  • Implementation, monitoring and evaluation of integrated community wellbeing programs
  • Advocacy, and capacity building on identified issues
Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications
  1. Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences or other relevant to community development and human services provision.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of current issues in the community sector, and knowledge of relevant Government legislation, standards and policies including Local Government Act, Disability Discrimination Act, human rights treaties, Child Protection Act, Principles of Multiculturalism Act or other legislation impacting the provision of community services.
  3. Experience in community engagement, leading and managing community development projects and initiatives and evidence based leading practice.
  4. High level critical thinking and problem solving abilities with capacity to solve complex and diverse issues in a timely manner demonstrating commitment to process improvement.
  5. Current Class C Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence.
