How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

As the Aquatic Services Officer you will support the work of the Aquatic Education and Programs Coordinator to grow and increase the quality of the aquatic education program as well as programs and bookings. You will also work closely with the recreation contractors (swimming instructors), aquatic education and programs coordinator, leisure service officer team and operations and leisure services manager to encourage these programs.

 

You will have a strong focus on customer service, retention and engaging students within the aquatic education program as well as mentoring instructors and actively engage with parents/guardians to assist the further development of students within the program. When required you will also need to be flexible and prepared to swim teach when an instructor in unwell at the last minute.

 

You will undertake various daily activities that support the day to day needs of the aquatic education program and will be required to perform direct service delivery at reception and pool deck to actively assess existing and prospective students, to address parent/guardian concerns and to monitor the flow of the lessons and daily timetable to ensure no future issues arise. When required you will follow up non-attending students and liaise with the aquatic education and programs coordinator to support promotions and events.

 

You will actively supports the leisure service and lifeguard teams, including direct service delivery as required across a seven day roster.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, set, measure and achieve specific key performance indicators required for decision making in relation to aquatic education and private swim lessons
  • Sound problem solving ability
  • Sound knowledge and capability using Links point of sale system, including classes module, memberships (including direct debits), facility bookings and reporting
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, with an ability to learn City of Melbourne document management systems
  • A commercial focus with an operational understanding of a local government run facility
  • AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (or equivalent)
  • AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infants and preschool or willingness to obtain within a reasonable agreed timeframe
  • A current Pool Lifeguard certificate or willingness to obtain certificate within four weeks of appointment
  • Units of competency
    • SISCAQU002 – Perform basic water rescues
    • SISCAQU006 – Supervise clients in an aquatic locations
    • SISCAQU007 – Perform advanced water rescue
    • HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation 
  • A current level two First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain certificate within four weeks of appointment
  • Units of competency
    • HLTAID003 – Provide first aid
    • HLTAID002 – Provide basic emergency life support
    • HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation 

Desirable:

  • AUSTSWIM Adults, Access and Inclusion, Towards Competitive Strokes or equivalent
  • AUSTSWIM Assessor
  • Pool Operations course / Aquatic Technical Operator certificate or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the Royal Life Saving Swim and Survive program criteria
