About the Position

The ABCC is seeking a Building Code Lawyer to become part of the Building Code Group. This is an exciting opportunity for a legally qualified candidate seeking to develop new skills in implementing Government compliance, while gaining an expert understanding of the application of the Building Code 2016 in the Australian building and construction industry.

The Building Code Group deals with all aspects of education, compliance and enforcement regarding the Code.

Reporting to the Manager - Government Code Compliance, the Building Code Lawyer will assist in implementing Government Code compliance requirements by assessing Workplace Relations Management Plans for compliance with the Code, drafting correspondence and providing advice to stakeholders and assisting with answering enquiries relating to the Code. 

The successful candidate will have knowledge or an ability to readily acquire knowledge of the Code. The successful candidate will be admitted as a legal practitioner and will be engaged at the APS 5 level. The position will be located in either Canberra, Melbourne or the Adelaide office.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in advising on legal issues
  • High-level oral and written communication skills and the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders.
  • Well-developed analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to analyse information and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence.
  • The ability to meet deadlines, manage work priorities and work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Knowledge or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the role and functions of the ABCC, including the Code.
