Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF)

Victoria's Department of Treasury and Finance serves government by providing leadership in economic, financial and resource management. The Department's vision is a prosperous future for all Victorians. All Treasury and Finance staff contribute to the Department's aspiration of an organisation where staff are challenged to grow personally and professionally.

The key functions of Economic Division are:

Social Policy Group: Provides analysis and policy advice on outcome based funding , health and human services, insurance (including WorkSafe and TAC), and whole of government occupational health and safety.

Revenue Group: Provides analysis and advice to government on tax policy, intergovernmental financial relations, revenue forecasting and gambling policy.

Economic Policy Group: Advises on macroeconomic conditions and policy; energy, resources and environmental policy; and regulation, planning and local government reform, to improve Victoria's prosperity.

Strategy and Reform Group: Provides rigorous analysis and policy advice on Victoria's economic strategy, whole of Victorian government risk, education and justice, and transport and industry transition. The group also focuses on the regulation and delivery of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Essential Services Commission (ESC)

The ESC is Victoria's independent economic regulator of essential services supplied by a range of industries, including water, transport, energy and local government. The primary objective of the Commission is to promote the long-term interests of Victorian consumers with regard to the price, quality and reliability of essential services.

These positions offer a unique opportunity to build experience and skills in economic and financial policy analysis and development. Successful applicants will work on a broad range of tasks, including developing policy advice, research, analysis and report writing.

Following the completion of their internship, successful interns are strongly encouraged to apply for the Economist stream of the VPS GRADS Program, which offers ongoing graduate positions across the Victorian Public Service. Successful applicants will be employed under the conditions set out in the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2016, and will be paid a salary of $50,828 per annum (pro rata), plus 9.5 per cent superannuation. The intern program will run from late November/early December 2018 to February 2019. Arrangements of specific start and end dates are flexible for each successful applicant.
