The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – New South Wales, RSPCA NSW, is a not for profit animal welfare organisation. As Australia's pre-eminent animal welfare organisation, RSPCA NSW provides a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. The RSPCA NSW is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities, including fully equipped veterinary hospitals and our state-wide shelter network, with 400 staff across NSW to care for animals.

The RSPCA NSW is seeking a pragmatic, organised person to join our Regional Inspectorate team in the South East region.

In this role you will be required to undertake investigations both individually and with other team members. You will be required to develop an in-depth knowledge of the relevant legislation, including but not limited to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

As a Regional Inspector you will need to demonstrate the ability to manage yourself and your workload through accurate notebook entries and timely system processing and updating.

In this role you will:

  • Undertake investigations
  • Attend assigned complaints and undertake other Inspectorate duties
  • Ensure that work is completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Engage in a positive and solution oriented manner with members of the public, other agencies and other stakeholders
  • Represent the RSPCA NSW in a positive manner
  • Focus on an educational approach whilst balancing the wellbeing of the animals
  • Answer and assist with Inspectorate enquiries
  • Work closely with other departments, especially the shelters and vet clinics to facilitate the relationship between the Inspectorate and the Shelters and Vet clinics
  • Work closely with other team members
  • Participate in training and development as required
  • Take a proactive role in shaping and fostering a positive culture based on teamwork

You will need to enjoy working with people and have the confidence to interact with both individuals and groups. You will need strong time management skills and a good sense of humour to succeed in this role. Ideally you will have a degree or other qualifications in a relevant field.

To succeed in this role you will have: 

  • Experience in investigations
  • Experience with livestock
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • The resilience to bounce back from occasional setbacks
  • An unwavering commitment to animal wellbeing, including health, care and welfare issues and the policies and principles of the RSPCA
  • Ability to perform physical duties including manual handling, and an ability to handle a minimum weight of 20 kilos
  • good exposure to workplace health and safety requirements
  • Certificate IV in Government (Investigation) or the willingness to attain this

To be considered, you must have a current NSW Class C drivers licence (not L or P plates) or equivalent from another state and be eligible to gain a NSW licence. You must hold or be eligible to hold a firearms licence and be appointed as an Inspector / Officer under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
