Ottoway Engineering is one of Australia's leading mechanical fabrication and installation contracting companies which provide specialised services to a wide variety of industries. We provide clients with a total project management package that encompasses design through to commissioning. From our fabrication workshops, we support our various construction and installation teams in South Australia and other regional locations. Due to ongoing growth, the organisation is looking to appoint an additional Estimator with Mechanical / Structural Steel experience. Initially this will be for a four week contract with the opportunity to extend.

Working across a variety of industry sectors that include Oil and Gas, Water, Mining and Defence, this key role will have primary responsibility for the estimating, tendering and securing of contracts. Responsible for the provision of commercially competitive and profitable tender submissions, this role will be directly accountable for the commercial profitability of their tendered submissions along with contributing towards the establishment of sustainable relationships with both new and current clients.

Key responsibilities in the role include:

• Developing accurate strategic and operational cost estimates for tender and contract submissions, identifying client's critical needs and tailoring solutions accordingly to ensure the company is competitively placed when submitting its tenders.
• Participate in project team meetings and provide sound Estimating advice and cost planning to enable evaluation of viable options.
• Estimating and tender preparation conducted with due diligence and with high degree of detail and accuracy, maximising the opportunity for a profitable outcome for all of the Company's tender submissions
• Assist Project Managers and Project Engineers to operate within estimated budgets and in compliance with the Clients standards and guidelines or industry regulations.
• Having a direct involvement  in  the total tender/estimate analysis and review process

It is envisaged the successful applicant:

• Have a minimum 5 years' experience working in an estimating position for a large heavy engineering services company. Ideally mechanical, structural and/or piping, mining, oil & gas or civil construction
• Have sound knowledge of business management, including working comprehension of profitability of contracts and tenders, sales and gross margins, budgeting, capital expenditure
• Have sound commercial experience in tendering, estimating, contract administration
• Demonstrate proficient skills towards reading and interpreting Fabrication and Mechanical Drawings
• Strong negotiating and presentation skills at management level with proven experience in contract presentation and negotiation
• Must have advanced IT knowledge - proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD and Pronto
