Senior Civil Engineer / Design Manager & 2ic - Urban, Land Development & Civil Engineering
This multi discipline engineering consultancy are looking for a credible Design Manager to help support with their workload and the technical management of their civil engineering team based in Melbourne.
 
Amongst civil engineering and land development our client has a strong presence in environmental engineering, project management, planning and structures Australia wide. They have an outstanding resume of iconic landmark projects in major cities ranging from state of the art high-rise buildings to CAPEX infrastructure and have made some significant hires recently to support their growth ambition.
 
This role could suit an established Design Manager or a capable Senior Civil Engineer with land development experience ready to take the next step and more responsibility to escalate their career path. 
 
The 2ic Design Manager will report to the Group Manager helping manage the existing client base as well as the team of civil engineers and drafters across a portfolio of land development and subdivision projects. The main responsibilities will include:
  • Client liasion/Account Management
  • Team management, mentoring and development
  • Design, documentation and delivery of a number of highly technical projects
  • Ensuring all necessary quality administration procedures are carried out to achieve efficient operations and prompt delivery of projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of projects feasibility, servicing strategy plans and master plans
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of tender submissions, and project proposals
  • Provide high quality client service delivery in accordance with company quality standards.
  • Report to senior staff and monitor performance of projects against agreed fees/budgets.
  • Liaise with other staff, project teams, stakeholders and assist in maintaining client relationships.
It is key for this team to deliver on their current projects before refocusing their business development and growth strategy.

The wider civil team across Australia has more than 40 people and although the first priority is to find someone with a Victorian profile, it would be interesting to explore individuals with relevant experience in another state keen on considering Melbourne as a location.
 
The Executive Leadership team have prioritised the Australian operation due to strong economic indicators and will provide the support required for management to achieve success.
 
Candidates being considered will need:
  • Local land development experience preferable
  • Demonstrated experience in designing roads, stormwater drainage, water sensitive urban design, sewer and water infrastructure
  • To demonstrate a track record of delivering civil land projects and managing or supervising engineers and drafters
  • Sound knowledge of 12D and AutoCAD.
  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Local water accreditation (desirable)
  • A strong client focus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage own time and priorities and assist the rest of the team to meet project objectives in a deadline driven work environment
  • Personal pride in quality of work and project outputs
  • Experience taking responsibility for tasks from inception to completion ensuring a smooth workflow process
