Project Controls Manager (Fixed Term 18 Months)

A residential opportunity exists in Karratha, Western Australia for a Project Controls Manager for the Yara Pilbara Technical Ammonium Nitrate Plant. The role is responsible for distribution of the project budget to the various suppliers including equipment supplier, engineering consultants, and construction contractors. Additional responsibilities include coordinating and managing project planning and scheduling, cost engineering, and project administration processes. The Project Controls Manager shall be the single point of contact towards the Project Director for all Project Controls related topics and issues and is responsible to ensure that all Project Control indicators and dashboards are regularly updated and in line with the project data and Yara standards.

Job tasks and responsibilities

As key part of the TAN Project team, your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Develop the project budget and ensure it's effective management, maintenance and forecast updates, including both contractor and owner's cost.
  • Review and analyze all scope change estimates by contractors
  • Cost control, trend reporting, and forecasting for the project.
  • Develop and control internal overall schedule to integrate both contractor and owner's responsibilities.
  • Coordinate project controls between vendors, contractors and site operations during maintenance and shutdown periods.
  • Ensure quality and correctness of overall cost, schedule and progress control documents. Review all Project Controls deliverables, and ensure on time delivery of all required reporting to the right stakeholder.
  • Ensure compliance of all project controls team members regarding Yara's QA and HES policies and standards.
  • Ensure correct monitoring of critical path and interfaces of the project schedule.
  • Monitor and follow up project control risks on the risk register of the project. Ensure and demonstrate that cost contingencies and schedule buffer are in line with Project risk and project status.
  • Develop an aggregated progress measurement system based on earned value management and combining progress from Yara and all subcontractors

Skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management
  • Minimum of 10 years professional work experience in Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Management, Project Controls related to major project construction for heavy industries including Power, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical, and Refinery
  • Demonstrated skills in:
    • Project Controls Management
    • Cost Controls and Forecasting
    • Project Scheduling
    • Project Estimating
    • Risk Analysis
    • Contracts Administration and Management
  • Possess a high level of communication skills - verbal and written
  • Personal qualities of self-motivation, taking initiative and excellent analytical skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Fluent English is essential
