About the role
Broadspectrum is currently seeking a Structures Officer to join our team. The purpose of this role is to inspect the construction of structures including but not limited to bridges, retaining walls, concrete barriers, drainage structures and gantries. The primary responsibility of this role is to support the effective and efficient management of resources through Level 1 and Level 2 Structures inspections in accordance with the VicRoads Roads Structures Inspection Manual, and a major focus on the management of assets, inclusive of all issues and activities that influence the assets’ integrity.
We require the candidate to be an advocate of technology and its role in the workplace. We provide comprehensive training on new electronic tools and innovative plant and equipment that has a role in making our work safer and more efficient. For example, the successful candidate will be required to gain a remote pilots licence to operate our fleet of inspection and surveying drones.

As the successful candidate in this role, some of your core responsibilities will include;

  • Ensuring the safety of the road user – through Level 1 and Level 2  Inspections of the structures using a variety of technologies, including smart inspection technologies and remotely piloted drones 
  • Assisting in the management of the Asset inventory by undertaking audits of the asset configuration
  • Monitoring contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications and contractual requirements. 
  • Ensuring the compliance of records, including inventory information is accurate and complete 
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of Structures Programs of work.

Required Qualifications and Experience;

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction and  engineering with a focus on bridge / structures maintenance
  • VicRoads accreditation for Level 1 and Level 2 Structures Inspections. Note exceptional candidates may be considered without these accreditations
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction or related discipline is advantageous
  • Working at Heights and Confined Space training/accreditation (for Bridge and Culvert Inspections)
  • Asbestos awareness training
  • First Aid training 
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Valid Driver’s Car Licence
  • CASA remote pilot licence (RePL) is desirable
  • Medium to advanced computer literacy (internet, MS Office applications, document control)
