About the Business Area
 
The Geotechnical Services business area of VicRoads is responsible for geotechnical investigation and design; geotechnical hazard risk management, quarry accreditation program, provision of expert advice on geotechnical matters to VicRoads, development of geotechnical specifications and standards, and assisting audit and surveillance of construction activities.
 
About the Role
 
Reporting to the Manager – Geotechnical Services, the Team Leader Investigation and Design will lead a team of two professional engineers and two technical officers, to deliver geotechnical services to VicRoads and other Victorian Government Agencies.
 
The day to day duties of this role include:
  • Providing leadership in geotechnical design and investigations for road alignments, bridge foundations, ground improvements, groundwater monitoring and soil contamination;
  • Supervision of geotechnical fieldwork;
  • Producing Site Conditions documents and geotechnical interpretation reports;
  • Undertaking roadside geotechnical risk assessment and management;
  • Developing and installation of remote ground movement monitoring systems;
  • Assisting in the development of technical standards and standard specifications;
  • Mentoring junior geotechnical engineers, and;
  • Financial management of geotechnical projects.

About the Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in geotechnical investigation and design or equivalent relating to road construction, bridge foundations, ground improvement works and geotechnical monitoring;
  • Demonstrated ability to use industry-standard software for geotechnical designs and analyses, and CADD; 
  • Experience in construction materials and geotechnical hazard risk management would be advantageous;
  • Must have a track record of excellent interpersonal skills and managing a team of professionals, and;
  • Experience with solving problems where there is no guidance available from existing standards, and experience with determining cost-effective maintenance treatments for geotechnical assets, would be advantageous.

The successful candidate must be registered with the National Engineer Register (NER) or eligible to be admitted into Institution of Engineer (Australia) as a Charted Professional Engineer (CPEng).
