Bell Bay Aluminium is looking for a Process Control Engineer

  • Permanent, full time opportunity
  • Attractive and competitive remuneration package
  • Based in Bell Bay, Tasmania

Bell Bay Aluminium has been in operation since 1955 and was the first smelter built in the southern hemisphere. The smelter produces around 200,000 tonnes of aluminium each year and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Bell Bay Aluminium’s strategy is based on ensuring the safe and environmentally sound management of its operations, continually improving its cost competitiveness, and the realisation of the full potential of its people, technology and physical assets.

The purpose of this role is to work as a member of the Metal Products Technical team to safely, efficiently and cost effectively deploy resources (people, systems and processes) to achieve the customers’ specified levels of product quality.

Principle tasks include:

  • Developing and refining casting recipes
  • Fault finding and resolving technical issues within own discipline
  • Leading initiatives to improve product quality, reduce losses due to quality issues, and increase productivity.

The successful candidate will be (required):

  • Tertiary qualified in a relevant field (preferably metallurgy or other material sciences discipline) or have significant relevant experience in casting process control engineering
  • Excellent communication skills, numerical competency and computer literacy
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and environment
  • An energetic and enthusiastic “hands on” approach
  • A passion to learn, improve and achieve
  • The ability to work effectively both within a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • The ability to plan work efficiently with discretion, reliability and accuracy

The following would be considered advantageous but are not required:

  • Experience in or knowledge of the aluminium casting process
  • Other heavy industry experience
  • Experience in a supervisory or mentoring capacity

In return, you will be rewarded with an attractive salary commensurate to your experience together with standard Bell Bay Aluminium employee benefits. Working within a dynamic and friendly culture, in an organisation renowned for its world class safety standards and high quality product, this is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate.
